The Salvation Army is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug services.  We offer a range of services including Harm Reduction and Primary Health Services as well as a range of treatment types (including residential treatment centres, community-based support programs, counselling, and withdrawal management services).

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive AOD Support Worker to provide practical and emotional support and facilitation of program engagement to the Residential Rehabilitation participants, who have alcohol and/or other drug (AOD) use problems.

Reporting to the Support Work Coordinator, this is Casual position based in The Basin, Victoria. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 4.

The successful applicant should be available to undertake the 24hr/7day support worker rostering schedule, comprising of the 
below:
Morning shift (7am – 3:30pm)

Afternoon Shift (3pm – 11pm)
Sleepover Shift (3pm – 8:30am)

Night Shift (Active) (10:45am – 7:15am)

You will successfully

  • Use appropriate risk models to assess levels of risk, harm and well-being, including immediate risk.

  • Understand and implement appropriate procedures and strategies to deal with crisis situations.

  • Develop and implement communication strategies tailored to presenting clients and their needs.

  • Transport clients to appointments.

  • Conduct scheduled and random breathalyser and urine screening.

  • Facilitate group sessions, collect feedback and record attendance.

  • Organise various social activities to ensure participants remain actively engaged and supervise participants while on outings or engaged in environmental care.

You will have

  • A Degree qualification in social work, psychology, addiction counselling or related discipline.

  • A Certificate IV (or equivalent) in the application of AOD interventions or the four competencies required to work within the AOD Sector.

  • A Current Certification in First Aid (HLTAID001) and CPR (HLTAID009).

  • A current Victorian Employee Working with Children Check.

  • A current Victorian Driver Licence.

  • Relevant experience in a social service environment and AOD sector.

  • Sound experience of working with women from diverse backgrounds and with a complex range of support needs.

  • Certificate IV in Community Services or equivalent, minimum Diploma preferred.

  • Relevant experience in a social service environment.
