The role
Join our team as a Sewerage Network Operations Technician
Reporting into the Senior Engineer, this field and office-based role exists to contribute to the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of South East Water’s sewerage networks by ensuring the sewerage network is operating correctly and in accordance with industry practices and standards and will facilitate maintenance and co-ordinate repairs or emergency response. This team operates within a 24/7 service environment and requires participation in a roster-based duty team to undertake full operational duties and responsibilities managing the sewer, water and recycled water networks.
In this role, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Issue and manage works through South East Water’s works management system
- Respond to complex customer issues usually within tight timeframes
- Identify, assist in the development and implementation of sewerage network improvements
- Schedule work for contractors
- Provide operational support to internal and external stakeholders on sewerage network operational and maintenance practices and procedures
- Monitor and report on the condition and operational status of the sewerage assets
- Facilitate inspections and test activities
- Co-ordinate emergency response works to minimise impacts to customers and the environment
- Complete security and asset integrity inspections
- Undertake monitoring of our sewerage, water and recycled water networks and provide support to the Network Operations Control Centre
Who are you?
You have relevant experience in the maintenance, construction and/or operations of sewerage, water and recycled water systems; along with a Cert III in Water Operations, trade qualification or relevant water industry experience. You're keen to grow, with a willingness to learn and develop, and undertake additional training where required.
You can demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills which are necessary due to the nature of the tasks requiring urgent action (which may occur during or outside of normal working hours). You're willing to work as part of a duty roster, meaning you may receive calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide operational advice, emergency response and direction on actions to be taken in the field.
To be considered for this opportunity, you must have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems such as those found at Pump Stations - desirable
- Experience in the use of technology such as SCADA and Works Management systems
- A broad understanding of sewerage catchments, pump stations and pressure sewer systems
- The ability to diagnose and resolve complex problems related to the sewerage network, at times independently
- Sound communication and negotiation skills to resolve issues using a sound sense of judgement, tack and diplomacy
- A broad understanding of hydraulic principles that apply to both gravity and pressurised sewerage networks
- An understanding of key performance indicators and the prioritisation of operational works
- Current White card
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence
