ABOUT THE ROLE
The Executive Dean, Faculty of Arts, Science, Law and Business is expected to provide leadership within the University and externally in the fields of Law and Business and professional development. This leadership role involves advancement of the national Faculty of Arts, Sciences, Law and Business consistent with the University’s mission, strategic direction, and identity as a Catholic higher education institution.
The role requires the Executive Dean to lead, guide and coach a dispersed team of staff and students, as well as represent the University to external stakeholders and manage the Faculties resources to achieve the optimum outcomes for the University.
 
Key Responsibilities

Lead the development and implementation of an annual business and strategic plan that facilitates the achievement of Faculty performance goals, advancing in a strategic and competitive manner, the national and international reputation and standing of the Faculty and the Objects of the University.

Lead, guide, and coach a dispersed team of Faculty staff and specialists to effectively implement guidelines and procedures for the design, delivery and review of all Faculty programs and courses. This includes: 

  • Overseeing the development of all new courses for presentation to the Academic Council.
  • Ensuring excellent and innovation in course development and review, teaching and learning, research and research training, community engagement and internationalisation.
  • Implementation of effective learning and teaching frameworks.
  • Monitor and report on internally and externally generated performance indicators.

Ensure delivery of a high quality and consistent research and scholarship programs and proactive identification of research opportunities and external strategic partnerships. Including:

  • Leading applications for research grants in collaboration with internal and external collaborators.
  • Directing programs that reward and lead staff research initiatives.
  • Deliver the University performance indicators in research and postgraduate strategies.

Promote expert advice to and build strong relationships with stakeholders such as Catholic institutions, Government and private school sectors, Registration and/or accreditation authorities, professional and policy influencers, and wider community partners to ensure UNDA operates and leverage these relationships to help drive key strategic and operational initiatives consistent with the Objects.

Collaborate in the implementation of change management and continuous improvement solutions to support the realisation of organisation wide transformation programs, including proactively identifying impacts, developing solutions to enable program success; appropriately leveraging all of the Faculties functional expertise in solution design and delivery; and ensuring the solutions are synergised with the UNDA strategies and performance expectations. 

Lead the Faculty in high level academic and research expertise, fostering a collegiate environment and strong sense of community amongst staff and students and relevant external bodies to promote a highly regarded international and national recognised professional institution, attuned to future higher education and work demands.  

Manage all resources of the Faculty to enable achievement of the operational and strategic plans, including management of staff performance and related HR matters, annual budget and expenditure, revenue strategies and collaboration with corporate services such as Estates, IT and Marketing.

About You

  • Excellent academic and research qualifications and a recognised record of scholarly achievement. Successful track record of senior higher education leadership and management.
  • Excellent grasp of the tertiary education sector, and sound appreciation of the demands of managing and flourishing a growing Faculty in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong leadership and management skills and a successful track record in the development, implementation, and evaluation of organisational change in a national, multi campus and multi-State context, demonstrating commercial acumen and alignment to performance goals.
  • Well-developed capability to contribute and drive excellence in teaching and learning, research, stakeholder engagement and internationalisation throughout the faculty, and collaboration across the University.
  • Demonstrated highly advanced skills in coaching and mentoring staff, student, and external stakeholders to ensure engagement to plan and prepare for long-term organisational change that actively seeks opportunities to improve and anticipates and addresses cultural barriers to change at multiple levels.
