Payroll Officer

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Officer to join our team. The Payroll Officer will be responsible for assisting in the end-to-end payroll function, including reviewing and improving processes and systems. This role will involve setting up new employees in the payroll system, calculating and processing payroll liabilities, and resolving employee inquiries related to payroll matters. The Payroll Officer will also stay updated with payroll legislation developments and provide support to the Payroll Supervisor as directed.
This role will report directly to the Payroll Supervisor and will be based at our office in Wetherill Park.
Duties & responsibilities:
- Reviewing, processing, and adjusting payroll payments, covering both regular and special payrolls such as fortnightly, weekly, and monthly cycles.
- Collaborating on transitioning payroll operations for two newly acquired businesses, overseeing the integration of their payrolls into our systems.
- Ensuring compliance with payment deadlines for Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and superannuation obligations, guaranteeing timely remittance of funds.
- Compiling and submitting comprehensive End of Month Group Payroll Journals, encompassing various elements like wages, leave provisions, payroll tax, and superannuation, while also managing timely payroll tax lodgment.
- Safeguarding the confidentiality of employee payroll data, ensuring adherence to legislative requirements, and provide informed guidance to management on payroll regulations and taxation queries.
Experience & attributes:
- Experience processing payroll for approximately 450 staff from beginning to end
- Familiarity with MicrOpay system (preferential).
- Familiarity with Kronos time and attendance system (preferential).
- Proven experience in payroll processing in a multi-site environment.
- Experience in applying Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements (Storage Services & Wholesale Award, Commercial Sales Award, Professional Employees Award, Clerks Private Sector Award, Electrical, Electronic and Communications Contracting Award)
- Trained in Payroll Processing (essential).
- Experience using word processing and spreadsheet software (Word, Excel).
- Trustworthiness, self-motivation, and the ability to work autonomously while also being a strong team player.
- Experience in a similar role, with initiative, strong attention to detail and efficiency, ability to work under pressure in a calm and methodical manner.
- Familiarity with payroll systems, legislation and procedures.
- Strong customer service mindset and always ensuring your customers receive an excellent service experience.
- Exercise discretion in matters of confidentiality
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
