About the Role
Science at Melbourne is a global leader across fundamental and impactful scientific research and education.
We sit across five of the University’s campuses – Parkville, Dookie, Burnley, Creswick and Werribee. This reach provides us with a unique perspective that is beneficial to our teaching and research.
This is a critical role in helping the Faculty achieve its ambitions for teaching, research, and innovation.
You will work closely with senior leaders and various teams across the Faculty of Science to oversee the entire lifecycle of capital works projects, from planning to execution, ensuring they align with the Faculty's infrastructure and asset strategy. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Operations, you'll play a key part in aligning these projects with the Faculty's Research and Education strategies, ensuring operational excellence and sustainability.
Your work will involve developing and informing key operational requirements for new infrastructure proposals, supporting the delivery of teaching, laboratory, and research spaces in line with the Science Precinct Master Plan.
Your responsibilities will include:
Investigate, analyse and advise on the Faculty’s current and future infrastructure needs and requirements, including functional and operational needs, physical assets and research infrastructure, and actively lead and advocate for the Faculty’s interests. Monitor, guide, advise on and inform the implementation of the Science Precinct Master Plan, project briefs and plans, and concept designs, including the provision of data, forecasts and recommendations based on the Faculty’s strategic and operational plans. Establish an understanding of the level and type of activities proposed within new or reconfigured facilities and the broader Estate Master Plan, including identification of specific requirements of individual initiatives. Working closely with the Dean, Faculty Executive Director, Associate Dean – Infrastructure, Director – Strategic Operations and other operations and infrastructure colleagues cooperatively to drive forward the Science agenda. Work with the Faculty and Schools to optimise the return on investment in our many research spaces, including mapping current usage and advising on best practice. Who We Are Looking For
You will bring your strong stakeholder engagement and project management skills to collaborate with senior faculty executives, schools, academics, and professional staff, along with a solid understanding of university and faculty operations in higher education.
You will also have:
Qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent mix of education and relevant experience, including project development experience. High-level project development capabilities and experience of briefing functional requirements for complex infrastructure projects. Demonstrated portfolio, financial, and business planning skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of people and build and maintain successful relationships. For further information regarding responsibilities and requirements, please refer to the attached PD.
