As one of Queensland's earliest nature-based tourist destinations, the Sanctuary is a physical embodiment of everything the NTAQ represents: to **protect, conserve, and celebrate the Environmental, Built and Cultural heritage of our State**.
As we continue to welcome visitors to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and to share our stories with visitors, students and team members, we are seeking a **First Nations Education Officer** in a casual capacity, to join our Education team to support and deliver a variety of resources and programs.
- **About the Role**
Reporting to the Education Manager, as our First Nations Education Officer, you will be delivering educational programs and engage with community, including; hosting school visits, conducting outreach programs in schools, community courses, hosting school holiday programs and promoting the work of the Sanctuary at community events. This role will have the immediate focus on delivering our education series on First Nations culture. This is delivered to students ranging from pre-school to tertiary level.
As be a passionate and friendly educator you will be able to engage with students and visitors and deliver content on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture & Australian wildlife conservation topics. An understanding and knowledge of local cultural protocols and Traditions Knowledge is highly desirable as we aim to deliver storytelling through engaging education programs.
**About You**
To be successful in this role, you must have a connection to and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and able to deliver the content of this role. This role is an *Identified Position as we deliver interactive and value-led First Nations education Programs. Other skills and attributes we are looking for include;
- Confident and engaging facilitation style and preferably experienced in information in a memorable, informative, and interesting way.
- Good administrational skills to manage program bookings and events and experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Wildlife handling experience or willingness to be trained in handling wildlife is required.
- Previous experience in developing First Nations educational experiences is highly desirable.
- Must have flexibility to deliver successful outcomes for this role - includes working over school holiday periods for our Vacation Programs.
- Current Blue Card or eligibility to obtain a Blue card (or exemption) and Driver's license is essential.
