The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for an organised individual to support the service delivery of BVSC's environmental health programs including surveillance of retail food premises, public health premises, on-site wastewater management systems, BVSC drinking water quality management, environmental health complaint investigation, environmental management, emergency response, and health promotion and education. As an Environmental Health Officer, you will support implementation of the on-site wastewater management inspection program and assist the Coordinator with referral assessment for Development Applications, associated documentation and statements for environmental health matters where required. You will also prepare and conduct surveys, monitoring programs or assessments relating to potential pollution in all forms from commercial or industrial premises.
About You / Qualifications
We are seeking an individual who holds a degree level qualification in Environmental Health or Environmental Management or Environmental Science or an equivalent relevant qualification and has three (3) years' experience in environmental health and inspections in a local government environment.
You will have the following skills and experience:
Demonstrated skills and knowledge in environmental health. Knowledge of the legislation pertinent to the role, including (but not limited to): Environment Planning and Assessment Act 1979; Local Government Act 1993; Food Act 2003; Public Health Act 2010; Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (as amended).
Sound written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise, negotiate and mediate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Analytical and investigative capabilities.
Benefits / Remuneration
This is a fixed term, full-time position working 35 hours per week for a period of three (3) years. The total remuneration package for this position commences at $95,484.48 gross per annum, comprising of: $1,639.50 per week base salary and $196.74 per week superannuation (calculated at 12%). Additional benefits include: leaseback vehicle, rostered day off scheme (nine day fortnight), annual award salary increases and performance reviews, salary packaging (SmartSalary), wellbeing initiatives (Fitness Passport, Employee Assistance Program, Telus Health App, social club, health monitoring and annual flu vaccinations).
