Brisbane Central State School is seeking a dedicated and hands-on Schools Officer to help maintain our vibrant and heritage-listed school environment. The role involves managing the maintenance of facilities including buildings, environment and classrooms. The position is temporary and open to Expressions of Interest, with extensions not to exceed 12 months. Salary reflects the lower classification with eligibility for progression to the next classification as criteria are met or demonstrated.
Brisbane Central is one of the oldest state schools in Queensland, celebrating its 150th anniversary. The school has heritage-listed buildings and a diverse, inclusive, multicultural community in a central Brisbane location.
Responsibilities
Perform day-to-day activities such as delivery and collection of mail/parcels, recording messages, printing and photocopying, and preparing classrooms for examinations or assemblies. Move and arrange furniture and assist with room setups; manage general store duties and stocktaking; maintain registers and record equipment/furniture assets.
Assist with security duties, including operating and maintaining school security systems, handling banking tasks (transport and deposit of funds at the bank, not reconciliation), and locking/unlocking buildings within core hours.
Assist with maintenance duties such as clearing drains and gutters, waste collection, cleaning outside normal hours, coordinating rubbish removal, and supporting significant events (fetes, plays, major sports).
Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements, maintain a safe work environment, manage chemical, fertiliser and fuel storage, identify safety hazards, manage equipment records, and maintain tools and equipment for repair services as per manuals.

Qualifications and Requirements
Experience in grounds and facilities maintenance and general school operations is preferred.
Ability to manage facilities including buildings, environment and classrooms.
Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements and safe storage/handling of chemicals and fuels.
