As Assistant Auditor-General (AAG), you will report to and support the statutory role of the Auditor-General to enhance public sector management and accountability through auditing of public sector entities and local governments, and reporting results to entities and parliament.
You will also play an integral role in the Executive Leadership Team's (ELT) collective stewardship of the QAO, providing insights to over 600 state and local government clients on how to deliver better public services for Queenslanders.Continuing the legacy of inspirational leadership, integrity and performance, this new portfolio responds to the increasing focus on cyber and information systems, including emerging technologies, and supports the delivery of audits on climate and sustainability.
You will shape its vision and strategic direction, identify risk, and implement the new methodology, standards and activities for success.

Assistant Auditor-General (AAG) – High Profile Queensland OpportunityIn the critical role of AAG, key leadership responsibilities include:
• Identification of and response to complex public sector risks associated with accountability and transparency (including those associated with information systems, sustainability reporting, and data);
• Development, guidance and oversight of a team of specialists to ensure high quality audit and assurance work;
• Contribution to a parliamentary reporting strategy relating to specialist audit activities;
• Support the Auditor-General to set the strategic direction of QAO and collaborate with ELT peers;
• Identification of opportunities for improvement across the QAO and the application of business acumen to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the QAO and its contribution to the Queensland Public Sector; and
• Promotion of and modelling the QAO culture of accountability and transparency and QAO values (Engage, Respect, Inspire, and Deliver).

A clear delineation of roles and responsibilities enables a strategic, high-performing, and collaborative ELT.The newly created AAG portfolio will play a vital role in independently auditing and assessing the State's investment in and management of technology and information systems and other emerging specialist areas like sustainability reporting.
The QAO requires an exemplary leader to join the ELT who will demonstrate:
• Skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications to perform the requirements of the role, with alignment to the scale, scope and complexity of the QAO and Queensland Public Sector operating environment;
• Relevant experience at a senior management level is a prerequisite and will include extensive leadership experience in auditing and assurance activities, applying public sector and specialist knowledge and skills;
• As a contemporary Senior Executive, you will understand collaboration, communication and a partnership approach (both internal and external) are critical to success.
You will lead capability uplift, continuous improvement and the further cultivation of QAO's positive, accountable and high performance culture; and
• Possession of an appropriate tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is required and membership of relevant professional bodies is preferred.
