About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.
Purpose of the role
Human Resource Services is responsible for providing professional advice and support to regional and state office managers and staff across the employee lifecycle including employee entitlements, Human Resource (HR) systems, establishment management and local recruitment and selection. The team is also responsible for designing, developing and delivering HR initiatives, policies and resources to ensure compliance and best practice in alignment with whole-of-government, departmental and business unit needs.
You will be a valued member of the team, contributing to the design, monitoring and delivery of timely innovative fit for purpose outcomes for our diverse workforce. You will work closely with managers, staff and stakeholders to build capability and understanding of HR principles, processes, systems and other resources to ensure best practice, governance and compliance with HR management requirements.

Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
- Ensure the effective use of HR systems and program governance through validation of documentation, user training and records management.
- Maintain knowledge and awareness of HR practices, systems and resources to ensure compliance with current legislation, and whole-of-government and departmental policies, procedures and standards.
- Liaise and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand business needs and ensure activities are delivered in a timely and efficient manner.
- Contribute to HR capability across the workforce through the design and implementation of (online and face to face) procedures, guidelines and resources, including recommendation for continuous improvement.
- Assist with the preparation of documentation and reports to support governance, compliance and evidence based decision in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Participate in projects and working groups to ensure outcomes are delivered within agreed timeframes and meet business and client's needs.
- Contribute to team cohesiveness and capability through participation in professional development opportunities and promotion of a positive environment respectful of the views of others.
