Remuneration:Salary $110,102.72 to $114,983.44 per annum (dependent on experience).
Equivalent salary range with packaging approx.
$118,831 to $123,712 per annum.
As a Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) NAAFLS can offer up to $15,899 per annum of the salary, Tax-free as a fringe benefit (conditions apply).
Hours of work:38 hours per week and on call on weekends
Employment Type:Full-time ongoing position (subject to funding)
Superannuation:12.0%
Leave Entitlement:6 weeks per annum plus 17.5% leave loading

ABOUT NAAFLS
NAAFLS is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Family Violence Prevention Legal Service (FVPLS).
We are the only victim-based Aboriginal legal service operating across remote communities in the Top End region of the NT.
We have offices in Darwin (Larrakia land), Katherine (Jawoyn, Dagoman and Wardaman land) and Nhulunbuy (Yol?u land), and service over 40 remote communities within the Top End region spanning from the Tiwi Islands down to Lajamanu, Wadeye and across to Borroloola.
We provide culturally sensitive legal advice, assistance, representation, and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Top End communities who have experienced domestic, family, and sexual violence.
We offer the unique opportunity to work collaboratively alongside client support officers and case workers, which are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identified roles, to ensure that our service is culturally safe and holistic.
This holistic and culturally appropriate model of service sets us apart, seeking practical community-based solutions to the most complex legal problems.
Our primary practice areas are family law, child protection, and domestic violence; though we frequently intervene in coronial inquiries, parliamentary inquiries, and other administrative or criminal proceedings as required.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Miyalk Domestic and Family Violence Shelter (MDFVS) is a newly integrated service within NAAFLS.
The shelter operates 24/7 365 days per year providing culturally safe, trauma-informed crisis accommodation and support services to women and children experiencing domestic and family violence in Nhulunbuy and surrounding communities.
The service offers a safe refuge, case management, advocacy, and referral support through holistic, strengths-based practice.
The MDFVS Co-ordinator is responsible for the operational management of the Safehouse and associated programs.
This includes overseeing service delivery, supervising and supporting staff and fostering a safe and respectful environment for all clients and workers.
Reporting to the CEO, the Co-ordinator will play a key role in ensuring partnerships, and organisational policies align the shelter's service model with NAAFLS' strategic and cultural frameworks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES
1. Daily Operations

• Co-ordinate the daily operations of MDFVS and its programs.

• Ensure Safehouse operations align with organisational policies, systems, and standards and program outputs and outcomes align with NAAFLS' strategic and cultural frameworks.

• Implement and monitor client case management systems and support plans.

• Foster a collaborative, accountable, and respectful team culture.

• Participate in after-hours on-call roster to support crisis responses and staff escalation needs.

• Respond promptly to incidents, critical events, and requests for guidance.
2. Practice Management

• Promote a client-centred approach, prioritising safety, dignity, and empowerment.

• In conjunction with the Therapeutic Practice Lead, ensure service delivery is trauma-informed, culturally appropriate, and aligned with best practice in DFV responses.

• Prepare and submit timely reports to the CEO and other stakeholders as required.
3. Workforce Support

• Identify recruitment needs and participate in onboarding and continual training of new staff.

• Supervise, and support staff working across rosters (including sleepover shifts).

• In conjunction with the Therapeutic Practice Lead, ensure staff are provided ongoing professional development, training, and reflective practice opportunities.

• Conduct regular service evaluations to support continuous improvement and ensure client safety.
4. Stakeholder Engagement

• Foster collaborative relationships with local agencies, health services, police, and community organisations.

• Represent NAAFLS at relevant forums, networks, and stakeholder meetings.

• Promote awareness of DFV and the role of the shelter in the community.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential

• Qualification in Social Work, Community Services or a related field.

• Previous experience managing DFV services, women's services, or crisis accommodation.

• Proven experience supervising staff and developing and maintaining a collaborative, accountable, and respectful team culture

• Previous experience constructing rosters in a 24/7 service environment.

• Strong understanding of the dynamics of DFV, trauma-informed practice, and culturally safe service delivery.

• Demonstrated experience providing culturally safe and appropriate services to Aboriginal women and children.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal victim-survivors.

• Proven ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with internal teams and external service providers.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.

• Commitment to ongoing professional development and a commitment to participate in relevant training.

• Willingness and ability to travel as required.

• Current NT Working with Children Clearance, National Police Check, and valid driver's licence.
Desirable

• Experience working in Aboriginal communities and/or an understanding of kinship systems and cultural protocols.

• Current First Aid and Mental Health First Aid certificates.

• Lived experience that informs your understanding of DFV and its impacts.
