With offices in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek, our service spans across multiple remote communities, including Papunya, Yuendumu, Harts Range, Santa Teresa, Ali Curung and more.

About the OpportunityCAAFLU is currently hiring multiple full-time Legal Practitioners based in Alice Springs, NT.
Reporting to the Principal Legal Officer, these roles are responsible for providing culturally appropriate legal advice and representation to Aboriginal victim-survivors in the areas of Domestic Violence Orders (DVO's), Victims of Crime Compensation, with occasional Child Protection and Family Law matters.
You will work closely with Client Service Officers (CSOs) to ensure clients receive wrap-around legal and non-legal support in a culturally respectful way.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Providing culturally appropriate legal support and representation in Domestic Violence Order matters, Victims of Crime Compensation, with occasional Child Protection and Family Law matters
Collaborating closely with CSOs to deliver holistic support to clients
Managing legal case files and maintaining timely and accurate records
Delivering Community Legal Education (CLE) and stakeholder training
Building strong relationships with external stakeholders and community organisations
Participating in outreach travel to remote communities and supporting law reform initiatives

About YouTo qualify, you will need to be eligible to hold a restricted or unrestricted legal practising certificate in the Northern Territory.
A minimum of 1 year post-admission experience in a relevant legal role is desirable.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
Knowledge of trauma-informed legal practice and DFSV issues
Experience in Domestic and Family Violence, Victims of Crime Compensation, Family Law or Child Protection
Experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities
Excellent communication and listening skills
Flexibility and willingness to travel to remote communities for outreach
You will also need a current 'C' Class Driver's Licence, a Working with Children Clearance, and a clear Criminal History Check.
Language skills in an Aboriginal language are highly valued and attract an annual language allowance of up to $2,100 if NAATI accredited, or $750 if not accredited.

What We OfferThe salary range for this position is based on the SCHADS Level 5 to 7 range, based on skills and experience.
The role also includes a range of additional benefits, including:
Up to $30,000 tax-free Salary packaging
Remote Area Allowance: $3,900 (single) or $5,900 (with dependants)
6 weeks annual leave + 1 week paid Christmas shutdown
17.5% leave loading
$1,200 annual airfare reimbursement (after 12 months), subject to funding
NT Practising Certificate and insurance covered
Paid CPD and professional development (after 12 months)
15 days personal leave, 10 days carer's leave, and 3 days mental health and wellbeing leave
