**Position overview**

ANU has a reputation for research and education relevant to the health and well-being of the population of Australia, as well as an international reputation for impactful research and education overseas. This is achieved through discovery research, applied research in health service settings, research-led teaching in health and medical sciences, and the translation of research findings into practice and policy. The ANU College of Health and Medicine is comprised of the ANU School of Medicine and Psychology School, Curtin School of Medicine and National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health (NCEPH). These schools work together to deliver world-class research and education across the spectrum of medicine and health-related fields, working in partnership with the health sector at local, national and international levels.

The National Centre for Health Workforce Studies (NCHWS) is a recently established centre at NCEPH with the goal of building national academic capability in health workforce research. Priorities include building sophisticated data, surveillance, modelling, and intelligence capacity to inform workforce planning; delivering post-graduate and professional education programs; strengthening the research and evidence base to inform public policy and industry investment in the health workforce; and partnering with government, higher education and health care providers to deliver rigor and excellence in planning, research and development of the nation's health and care workforce

The initial focus of **NCHWS** will be to build advanced health and care workforce planning tools and models for governments and industry. This will be achieved by leveraging the foundation work of the ANU's Health Data and Analytics Team (HDAT) to make better use of a range of national, jurisdictional, industry and regional data sets to better inform supply and demand modelling and through a range of government and industry partnerships address the workforce planning and development needs of partners.

**NCHWS** will undertake projects of national and regional significance that utilise large-scale linked data sets to build better planning and modelling tools for the health and care workforce. These will be initiated by the Centre, front line research teams and through government and industry partnerships - driven by their need for better workforce planning, research insights and evidence to guide government policy and programs and industry investments in a sustainable health and care workforce for the nation.
