**What's the role?**

This role will work within our existing team to cover political news out of Canberra. This is a full time, permanent position based out of News Corp office in Parliament House.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Pitch and generate original news stories and ideas
- Break political news stories
- Maintain an accurate and up to date calendar
- File engaging copy to strict deadlines
- Develop and maintain good relationships with key political players
- Liaise with CoS (Politics) on daily coverage, planning and key events
- Respond to breaking news events outside of rostered hours when required

**Who are you?**
- At least two years of journalism/newsroom experience, preferably in political reporting
- Ability to cut through spin and get to the heart of issues in an engaging way for readers
- Previous experience covering breaking news
- Excellent time management skills
- Capable of multitasking and working under strict deadlines
- Team player with strong communication skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Able to simplify complex topics for a broad audience
- Flexibility around working day and hours
