
Disability Support Worker

As a Disability Support Worker, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals with disabilities to lead independent, fulfilling lives. You will provide personalized support to clients, helping them achieve their goals, maintain their daily routines, and participate in community activities. Success in this position is measured by your ability to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where clients feel respected, valued, and encouraged to reach their full potential. This role is crucial to the organization's mission of delivering high-quality, person-centered care and fostering a culture of dignity and respect for all clients.
**Responsibilities**:
- **Provide Direct Care and Support**: Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and mobility support, ensuring their comfort and safety at all times.
- **Promote Independence**: Encourage clients to participate in decision-making and support them in developing skills for greater independence, such as budgeting, cooking, and accessing community resources.
- **Implement Personalized Care Plans**: Work closely with healthcare professionals to execute individualized care plans, regularly updating them based on the clients' evolving needs and preferences.
- **Facilitate Community Engagement**: Support clients in engaging with their communities through social, recreational, and educational activities, fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion.
- **Monitor and Report on Client Progress**: Observe and document clients' physical, emotional, and social well-being, reporting any concerns or changes to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
- **Maintain a Safe Environment**: Follow organizational protocols and procedures to ensure a safe environment for clients, colleagues, and visitors, including managing emergency situations and adhering to health and safety regulations.
- **Advocate for Clients' Rights**: Ensure clients' rights are upheld at all times, advocating for their needs and preferences within the organization and the wider community.
- **Collaborate with Multidisciplinary Teams**: Work effectively with a diverse team of professionals, including therapists, social workers, and medical staff, to deliver comprehensive support and care.
**Qualifications**:
**Skills**:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients and colleagues.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities effectively.
- Empathy and patience, with a genuine commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic and sometimes challenging environment.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
**Education**:
- Certificate III or IV in Disability, Community Services, Aged Care, or a related field is highly desirable.
**Experience**:
- Previous experience working in a support or care role, especially with individuals with disabilities, is preferred.
- Experience in using assistive devices and technology to support clients with mobility and communication needs.
**Certifications**:
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle (if required for the role).
- Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or equivalent).

Pay: $30.54 - $35.64 per hour
