**ACCOUNTABILITY**:
**REPORTS TO**: Principal

**WORKING TIME**: Full time

**RATIONALE**:
The Deputy Principal is a member of the Junior School leadership team and reports directly to the Principal. The Deputy Principal provides strategic leadership in line with the College's vision and is responsible for ensuring management decisions align with the College's strategic plan with overall direction from the Principal.

**DUTIES**:

- Ensure the College's Islamic ethos, student wellbeing and student achievement are at the forefront of decision-making
- Leading and managing the provision of a pioneering, creative and stimulating curriculum for the Junior School
- Play a major role under the overall direction of the Principal in formulating and reviewing the Junior School Improvement strategy
- Make recommendations to the Principal on all matters relating to areas of your responsibility where changes or improvements are required to existing policies and procedures
- Contribute to the development of and compliance with policies and procedures for the Junior School
- Leading the development and monitoring of policies relating to the Junior School's Teaching and Learning and ensuring that the Junior school practice reflects those policies holding responsibility for educational standards across the school
- Assisting the Principal with developing the teaching expertise, professional development, and wellbeing of staff
- Establishing high standards of student achievement, uniform and behaviour throughout the school
- Assisting the Principal with self-evaluation and development planning process
- Work collaboratively and effectively with the leadership team to achieve high performance
- Assisting with the management of daily operations of the school including the calendar, events management, assemblies, class covers
- Compliance with NESA requirements - Assist the Principal as required and to deputise when necessary
- Support staff where necessary to ensure that quality teaching and learning is the focus
- Assist the Principal in compiling, proposing and overseeing the Junior Schools' financial budgets on an annual basis
- Teach assigned classes where requested or required although no teaching load has been specified
- Attend Junior school camps or overnight activities, where required and requested
- Attend College orientation and induction days, be available at parent/teacher interviews, attend staff meetings, assembly duty, participation in extra curricula programs, professional development activities

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**:
**QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE (ESSENTIAL)**
- Teaching qualifications and accredited to teach
- At least 10 years' outstanding teaching and leadership experience in the primary age range
- At least 5 years' leadership experience; desired
- Additional higher educational leadership qualifications e.g. MA or MEd; Not essential

**KNOWLEDGE, UNDERSTANDING, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Demonstrated ability to lead effectively
- A clear and proven commitment to the Islamic ethos and values contained in the Islamic ethos statements and capacity to develop and promote this within the college
- A sound understanding of how students learn, how teachers can best teach and how to achieve high standards
- Knowledge and understanding of schools; knowledge and understanding of legislation and ongoing developments in education in the Islamic Sector
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding, pastoral care and the promotion of high standards of positive behaviour
- High levels of communication skills both oral, written and in ICT
- Effective listening skills, conflict resolution skills and negotiation/mediation skills

- Ability to act quickly and sensitively under pressure, to keep calm in difficult situations, deal with stress and absorb pressure
- Ability to manage own workload appropriately, with the enthusiasm, stamina and passion to enthuse and motivate others with regard to all aspects of the education of the Junior school
- Open and constructive, accepting of feedback and always willing to learn
- Excellent interpersonal skills, approachable to all members of the school and the wider community; a 'can do' positive approach, displaying warmth, empathy, and good sense of humour
