**The role**
During this six-month secondment opportunity as Environment Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for driving our operational compliance with environmental regulations, guidelines and licence conditions.
This will include establishing and maintaining the operations environmental programs and policies for South East Water, including the groundwater monitoring program and sewer spills management policies, and providing best-practice expert advice and regulatory support across the business.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide expert advice to operational areas on environmental risks and control options;
- Drive programs to meet EPA License conditions and associated compliance notice resolution;
- Initiate and lead environmental investigations and programs, including during incidents;
- Autonomously project manage discrete projects and external contractors;
- Independently identify priorities and potential solutions to complex strategic and technical issues;
- Work with internal stakeholders to improve environmental outcomes relating to wastewater treatment, recycled water and network spills/incidents;
- Provide proactive leadership for projects with internal and external stakeholders;
- Influence regulation, guideline and policy development to ensure operational impacts are considered;
- Communicate and provide expert advice on the impacts of regulation, guideline and policy changes;
- Provide high quality verbal and written updates and reports as required;
- Oversee and be available to lead incidents relating to recycled water in a 24/7 operational context;
- Liaise with the EPA on environmental operational matters
**Who are you?**
With a strong knowledge of EPA licencing requirements and the Environment Protection Amendment Act 2018 (Vic) (EP Act), you will have hands on experience of reviewing, managing and implementing environmental programs and investigations along with a track record of leading or supporting compliance and/or corporate environmental reporting.
To succeed in this role you will also be able to demonstrate:
- The ability to work autonomously and an ability to independently juggle competing priorities and adapt work needs as required/directed;
- Proven project management skills including management of internal and external contractors. As part of this, there would be a need to be able to provide a high level of negotiation skills;
- Understanding of wastewater treatment processes;
- Strong problem solving skills that enable you to work with ambiguity and uncertainty;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong stakeholder management skills;
- Ability to work autonomously with little direction at times and sound judgement, i.e. Knowing when to elevate issues to the General Manager Customer Service Delivery or the Environment Manager and an ability to work with ambiguous environments.
- A minimum of 10+ years professional experience in a relevant field;
- Bachelor degree or higher in environmental management, environmental risk assessment, environmental science, environmental engineering, or another relevant field.
