About the roleThe Master will be responsible for the daily efficient operation of the vessel whilst maintaining excellence in safety, reliability, and staff customer service at all times.
The primary function of this role is the safe and efficient operation and navigation of company vessels.
This position requires working as a leader of a team, with high standards of interpersonal and organizational skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, as well as proven safe ship handling and management skills.The Master must ensure the vessel maintains compliance with all relevant local and international laws and company policies and is responsible for the implementation and verification of the Safety Management System on board.About YouProven strong leadership skills and people managementExcellent written and verbal communicationOrganization and planning abilitiesAbility to perform autonomously and delegate effectivelyOutstanding vessel handling skillsFlexibility and reliabilityCustomer service orientationProven ability to handle difficult situationsInterpersonal and relationship-building skillsProven reporting and accountabilityExperience in the transport industry – DesirableThese key requirements will be complemented by experience and skills in the following areas:Master 5 Certificate of Competency - EssentialMED 3 or higher - EssentialGladstone Local Knowledge – EssentialMust have or be able to achieve within the first 3 weeks of employmentSenior First Aid and CPR – EssentialMarine Radio Operator - EssentialDriver's license – EssentialConfined Space certification – EssentialWorking Safely at Heights – EssentialOther duties include :Responsibility for safety, pollution prevention, and efficient vessel operationReporting safety or environmental issues directly to the Operations Manager or DPAImplementing safety and environmental policies, motivating the crew, issuing clear orders, and reviewing safety activitiesReporting defects and matters affecting safe operation or pollution riskOnboard training coordination as per SeaLink's SMSAssigning roles respecting company policies and proceduresEnsuring SMS compliance and documentation updatesReviewing contingency plans and vessel proceduresReporting non-conformities and hazards, completing paperwork timelyMaintaining up-to-date vessel and crew certificatesConducting stability and related calculations for vessel safetyEnsuring passenger comfort and satisfactionConducting weekly crew meetings and daily prestart meetings, documenting allConducting safety drills as per SMSThis role requires working outside normal hours, flexible shift times, and may include deckhand work.
A thorough knowledge of vessel operations is essential.
