**About the Role**

The Collection Management Branch is responsible for transferring, storing, preserving, and digitising the National Archives' collection so it remains accessible for future generations. The Branch develops policies and systems as well as provides services, undertakes research, and implements projects to ensure the care, management, and accessibility of archival records. The Branch is also responsible for identifying information management requirements for Australian Government agencies to ensure Australian Government information assets (records, information, and data) are created, collected, and managed effectively.

Duties include:

- Supervise and coordinate storage activities and projects for Collection Operations and provide support for a range of functions which include:

- Analysis, planning and reporting
- Liaising with Australian Government agencies and internal stakeholders especially Preservation staff regarding storage of collection material
- Assessing and processing new transfers in varying formats
- Providing advice and guidance in line with the current National Archives' policies especially storage requirements for collection material in custody or retained by agencies and relocation of records.
- Liaise with National Archives staff and external stakeholders to maintain standards of service and ensure work targets are monitored and analysed. Supervise staff in the use of the National Archives' electronic records systems within established procedures and practices.
- Identify and put forward ideas to resolve or mitigate problems, and contribute to and participate in the National Archives' change agenda.
- Coordinate the training and development of staff including physical records handling training. Ensure that Work, Health and Safety issues are identified, reported and monitored.

Desirable requirements

The position holder will possess or have the ability to develop a sound working knowledge of archival principles and processes as well as project management, and be able to share this knowledge through training, mentoring and developing the professional and/or technical expertise of staff.

Essential requirement

Positions that involve significant manual handling require a higher level of physical stamina and capability. You must be willing and be able to meet the inherent physical requirement of this role which includes lift a stable weight of 7 kilograms to shoulder height readily.

**Eligibility**

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Negative Vetting 2 clearance level.
