**Role Description/Criteria**

**St. Paul's Primary School is looking to appoint a committed, dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Officer (LSO) to join our learning community and assist our students with English as an Additional Language (EAL).**

Hours are 8:30am - 3:30pm. Days to be determined.

The successful applicant will:

- work under the direction of teachers, provide intensive EAL language support for new and recent arrivals students
- assist students to develop their English language proficiency, both, in a one on one or small group context and through in-class support.
- support students in learning about, and settling into, education in Australia.
- at the direction of the teacher, prepare teaching resources and materials.
- have some experience working with students from non English speaking backgrounds
- carry out administrative duties associated with the role
- be able to plan for and implement programs and strategies, supporting students
- document adjustments relating to student's Individual Learning Plans
- be highly motivated, committed, positive, friendly and enthusiastic
- display effective communication and organisational skills and the ability to be flexible, proactive and resourceful
- use initiative within the class environment to ensure optimal student support
- be self motivated and able to work independently if necessary
- be able to build positive relationships with children and assist in creating learning environments where all are valued and challenged
- demonstrate an understanding of child safety and the appropriate obligations and behaviours when engaging with students
- be committed to professional learning and ongoing improvement
- be committed to the values and ethos of the Catholic education system

**Special Requirements**:
Applicants must have:

- Working With Children Check
- Current Police Check
- Current First Aid qualifications
- Certificate lll and/or Certificate lV in Education Support
