Overview Are you a skilled lawyer looking for your next challenge?
A top-tier law firm has partnered with Elevate and is seeking a qualified lawyer for a secondment with a leading energy and utilities sector company on a 6-month contract.
The role will involve providing expert advice on retail regulatory and contractual matters.
Based in Melbourne, the role can be performed part-time or full-time (4-5 days per week) and will commence in October 2025.
Responsibilities Advise on energy retail regulatory requirements, including NERL, NERR, AER obligations, and Victorian-specific energy laws.
Draft, review, and negotiate retail energy contracts, customer agreements, and supply arrangements.
Provide strategic advice to senior management on regulatory changes and compliance strategies.
Liaise with regulators, respond to compliance inquiries, and manage reporting obligations.
Support resolution of customer, contractual, and regulatory disputes.
Collaborate cross-functionally with commercial, operations, and compliance teams.
Monitor developments in energy law and proactively manage legal risk.
Qualifications A minimum of 7 years of experience with a strong background in energy retail regulation and commercial contracting.
Strong understanding of the Australian energy market, particularly retail operations and compliance frameworks.
Ability to assess complex legal issues and provide clear, commercially viable solutions.
Prior in-house legal role in an energy retail organisation.
