The role
The Government Relations & Industry Affairs (GR&IA) function operates to educate and influence policy, regulatory or legislative change primarily at the federal and state government levels, enabling QBE to optimise business opportunities and minimise risks posed to the business by effectively communicating QBE's views to governments, opposition and bureaucrats.
The Government Relations Policy Manager will support the function to enable it to effectively deliver on its strategy. The role responsibilities include monitoring and identifying political, regulatory and policy issues and trends, researching and drafting relevant evidenced based collateral and engaging effectively with key internal and external stakeholders.
How will I help?
A day in the role may look a bit like this;- Supporting the GR&IA function by delivering key aspects of the policy development process and supporting engagement and advocacy efforts.- Monitor political, legislative and policy issues and developments and identify and report on impacts and reputational issues for QBE and its business.- Provide research, analysis and advice on potential policy matters, government or regulatory reforms or reputational issues affecting the business- Support the policy development process, including through research and analysis and the preparation of evidence-based collateral such as summaries of key issues, submissions, briefs, background materials, key messages, and policy position papers.- Engaging effectively with key internal and external stakeholders to co-ordinate feedback and support policy development on issues affecting the business.- Develop and prepare relevant registers and internal reports and communications for distribution to executives and the business.- Work closely with key stakeholders across the business (e.g. regulatory, compliance, risk, legal) to ensure alignment of initiatives and provide advice and support as required.- Maintain an active network of counterparts across the industry and engage with external stakeholders as needed (e.g. government departments and industry association) to support effective engagement and advocacy.- Support risk management processes through identification and maintenance of risks and controls applicable to GR&IA
What do I need?
To be successful as a Government Relations Policy Manager you will have experience within a policy, regulatory or government relations role.
You will also have;- Relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g. law, economics or political science, or other relevant degree).- Superior communication skills, both written and verbal- Superior research and analysis skills and capacity to comprehend complex issues, think strategically and adapt to changing circumstances- Meticulous attention to detail and superior organisational skills- Ability to influence and persuade constructively- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent stakeholder management skills- Ability to work as part of a small team with mínimal supervision- Experience in developing and implementing policy strategies that meet the business objectives- Experience and track record in research, analysis and advice on government policy matters and policy analysis and development (including developing and preparing evidenced based collateral such as briefings and submissions).
