Swickers is the processing arm of the SunPork Group and handles 90% of all pigs processed in Queensland. Based in Kingaroy, the site is a critical part of Australia's pork supply chain and is one of the most advanced processing facilities in the country. Following a major rebuild in 2019, the plant features high levels of automation and robotics. It operates 24/7 with a workforce of approximately 1,000 people. SunPork is the largest employer in the Kingaroy region and plays a central role in the local community.
About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Automation Specialist to join the maintenance team in a permanent, full-time capacity in our site in Regional Queensland. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you'll be responsible for overseeing and optimising the site's automation systems, including PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, and VSDs. This role suits someone hands-on and technically strong, who thrives in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment and enjoys driving innovation and efficiency. Situated in Regional Queensland known for agriculture and food production, offering a strong community vibe and affordable living.
Responsibilities
Designing, programming, and maintaining automation control systems (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA)
Providing high-level technical support to the broader maintenance team
Leading the specification and procurement of electrical/controls equipment
Managing instrumentation and automation-related activities
Delivering end-to-end projects with a focus on continuous improvement and efficiency
Qualifications
New Zealand Citizenship
Electrical Engineering qualification or current QLD Electrical License
3+ years' experience in industrial automation (Allen Bradley preferred)
Proven track record managing automation and controls projects in a manufacturing setting
Solid understanding of machine design, electrical, and automation systems
Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with a hands-on approach
