Overview:
We are seeking a Head of Research, Asia ex-Japan for ISS Governance to join our global team and be a leading contributor to ISS' mission of empowering investors to effectively manage governance opportunities and risks to realize long-term value. The role will include interfacing with investors, companies, and others seeking to engage with ISS in these markets, and with internal colleagues globally. This position will manage and lead the regional governance research teams, consisting of over 50 professionals located in 5 locations in the APAC region, and whose responsibilities include producing ISS' objective independent research, proxy voting recommendations and thought leadership. The position will be based in Sydney, Australia.

**Responsibilities**:

- Lead, manage, and develop high performing governance research teams with relevant local market expertise
- Oversee ISS' leading benchmark governance research on public companies and their shareholder meetings in the Asia ex-Japan markets (including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, India, and other markets across the region), delivering independent, insightful and contextual research reports and voting recommendations for institutional investor clients within required deadlines
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with institutional investor clients, regulators, and other key stakeholders in the region
- Maintain a high level of working knowledge of corporate governance, ESG and other voting
- related topics, policies, regulations, research and best practices at both regional and global levels as well as keep abreast of key investment stewardship and shareholder issues
- Identify and act on issues that have business-critical impact on operations and business reputation
- Respond to internal and external queries on research reports from key stakeholder groups, including ISS' international client base of institutional investors
- Participate in ISS' global policy development processes and contribute to the debate on corporate governance, ESG and all voting policy-related matters
- Represent ISS at events, conferences, speaking engagements and at industry associations

Qualifications:

- 10+ years of experience of leadership with management responsibility in a related or adjacent industry, and with deep expertise in corporate governance and investor stewardship.
- An understanding of the proxy advisory industry and the role it plays for institutional investors
- Strong familiarity with financial markets and the role of asset owners, asset managers, regulators, policy makers, and other stakeholders, with their positions in the investment stewardship ecosystem
- Broad range of experience collaborating cross-functionally to manage stakeholders at all levels of seniority as well as experience working with diverse teams across global locations including the Americas and Europe
- Highly analytical with the ability to distil and assimilate large quantities of information
- Excellent organizational and management skills, capable of both team and process management
- Organized and structured mind, with excellent time management skills: capable of handling multiple priorities and working under tight deadlines
- Advanced degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Law, Economics, Political Science, or other relevant area is desirable (although not essential if relevant professional experience is strong)
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail
