About VMIA
Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) is the Victorian Government's insurer and risk adviser, covering the people and projects that help Victorians thrive. We're an agency in the Department of Treasury and Finance portfolio established under the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority Act, and report to the Assistant Treasurer.
We provide insurance and risk advice to government departments and agencies, with more than 4,600 clients ranging from small community service organisations to public hospitals, schools, and core service providers. We also provide domestic building insurance to builders, giving Victorian homeowners peace of mind for building projects valued over $16,000.
We help our clients prepare for, prevent, or reduce the impact of harm. When things don't go to plan, we help clients restore services and recover quickly.

Your role
As a Risk Adviser, your role is to deliver enterprise risk advice to the Victorian Public Sector, so our clients can improve their capability to assess and manage risk. In doing so, they will have a considered view of their enterprise risk maturity, a prioritised plan to address the highest value opportunities, and support from VMIA as they implement changes in their organisation.
Your key focus will be embedded in developing trusted relationships through an empathetic and supportive approach for the delivery of strategic advisory services to clients; supporting our clients to manage their risk.
You work closely with the State-wide and Insurable Risk Advisory teams, to deliver integrated risk and insurance advice to clients that also encompasses risks which are state-significant or require a State-wide approach thus ensuring the best possible client experience, further strengthening the VMIA brand.
You will become part of the Risk Services Division and a talented team of people who are passionate about doing work contributing towards a more confident and resilient Victoria.
This role is part of the Enterprise Risk Advisory team, reporting to the Head of Enterprise Risk Advisory in the Risk Services Division
How you'll make an impact
- Provide relationship management support to our clients and contribute to account management and client service plan processes.
- Support the end-to-end delivery of enterprise risk advisory service - including services to support embedding the Victorian Government Risk Management Framework.
- Provide background research to support engagements.
- Write reports, desktop reviews, service proposals, reports on workshop outputs and project related work.
- Facilitate client learning sessions and tailored workshops; support guiding conversations, monitor client feedback, and note taking.
- Seek opportunities for continuous improvement.

Who you work with
- You work primarily with our agency client segment, including departments in their agency capacity, delivering enterprise risk advisory services.
- You also work closely with our Statewide and Insurable Risk Advisory functions to ensure the best possible client experience, and with our Service Development team to create and delivery new tools to support our objectives.
- From time to time you may update the Chief Services Officer, reporting and presenting on strategic programs or initiatives.

About you
- 2-5 years' experience in a similar role with extensive knowledge across risk management and/or in consulting roles related to embedding contemporary enterprise risk management practice.
- Strong track record of managing client relationships including the management of agreed service delivery programs and outcomes.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills; written, verbal and facilitation skills with the ability to influence and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes to a wide variety of audiences.
- Highly collaborative with a strong track record of working in teams to agreed outcomes.
- Experience working with Boards and Executives, and confidence to work with and influence stakeholders of all levels.
- Excellent organisation skills and ability to respond with confidence to changing needs and deadlines, whilst maintain high quality outcomes.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.
- Previous experience of working in public sector, health or not-for-profit sectors. (Preferrable)
