The Role
The Engineering Manager
is responsible for leading and managing a team of PHP and Java developers to deliver the company's product and technology roadmap. This role ensures that engineering practices, delivery timelines, and quality standards are met while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and coach PHP and Java development teams.
Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance engineering culture.
Roadmap Delivery
Translate the product/technology roadmap into actionable engineering plans.
Own the end-to-end delivery lifecycle — planning, execution, deployment, and post-release support.
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and with high quality.
Technical Oversight
Provide architectural guidance across PHP and Java systems.
Ensure best practices in code quality, design patterns, testing, and security.
Partner with architects and senior engineers to evolve system architecture and scalability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Product Managers to refine requirements and prioritize backlog.
Collaborate with QA, DevOps, and Security teams to streamline delivery pipelines.
Communicate project status, risks, and dependencies to stakeholders.
Process & Delivery Excellence
Implement agile/scrum practices for planning, estimation, and retrospectives.
Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and tooling.
Ensure effective incident management and root cause analysis.
Proven experience managing engineering teams delivering PHP and Java applications.
Strong understanding of web application architectures, APIs, and enterprise integrations.
Hands-on coding/architectural background (PHP frameworks, Java/Spring Boot).
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud (AWS).
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
7+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership/management role.
Track record of delivering complex software projects in an agile environment.
