The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

**What Will You Do?**
In this role, you will be an integral and valued member of a highly skilled and high-performing Criminal Law Practice. The Youth Bail Advocacy Program is a new program at the ALS designed to reduce the high rates of short-term remand for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people by providing wraparound support alongside specialist legal representation.
- Prepare correspondence, briefs of evidence, subpoenas, affidavits, court reports and other documents using MS Office.
- Assist clients with non-court matters and referrals.
- Organise client files and documentation including input of data into client databases, including opening, closing, archiving files and other general data entry.
- Liaise with police, solicitors, court staff, Youth Justice staff and other key stakeholders for specified tasks as requested by the Managing Solicitor of the Children's Criminal Practice or the Youth Bail Advocacy Project Manager.
- Work collaboratively as part of an integrated team, alongside Aboriginal Youth Officers, solicitors and administrative staff.

A highly skilled and motivated individual with a thorough understanding of the cultural, social, and historical needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will be able to demonstrate:

- Currently studying or completed a degree in law.
- Capacity to behave in a culturally appropriate manner.
- Proven computer systems skills and excellent oral/written communication skills
- High time management skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and work independently in a team environment with limited supervision.
