About us

As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

Purpose of the role

Uniforms and Logistics is responsible for the provision of uniforms, personal protective equipment (PPE) and operational equipment to all services and streams of the department. The logistics team manage the warehousing and supply of uniforms, PPE and operational equipment to the QFES staff and volunteers and provide supporting documentation, workforce engagement and customer service to meet service delivery requirements.

Reporting to the Program Manager, you will play a key role in inventory administration functions for the logistics program service delivery capability. You will be responsible for the purchasing of warehoused uniforms, PPE and equipment, including forecasting to meet supply and demand requirements to maintain appropriate stock levels, while complying with relevant finance, procurement and asset management policies and procedures to meet organisational objectives.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

- Monitor, coordinate and maintain QFES uniforms and equipment inventory through the review of usage patterns, lead times and inventory levels to maintain appropriate stock levels.
- Source inventory items, including creating and managing purchase orders to meet service delivery requirements.
- Liaise and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, including assisting with supplier performance reviews, escalating issues and undertaking negotiations to ensure supply is responsive to current and future needs.
- Contribute to the development of the annual Inventory Management Plan to support organisational planning, probity and transparency in the provision of uniform, PPE and equipment items.
- Assist in the preparation of reports, briefings, general correspondence and update registers relevant to inventory matters, in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Contribute to continual improvements in service delivery, including identification of possible efficiencies and collaborating on the development of innovative solutions to support business objectives.
- Contribute to a cohesive team environment by sharing information, supporting and assisting colleagues in a proactive manner, including to resolve issues or provide recommendation for improvement.
