About us
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the role
The Navigation and Triage Officer will support the overall provision of the Navigation and Triage service within MCV. Working under the leadership of the Navigation and Triage Coordinator, you will provide navigation services for court users to access mainstream court support programs and specialist services and agencies. You will assist in the early identification, screening, triage, and referral for court users who present with complex needs. This will contribute to quality and timely outcomes for clients, judiciary, legal representatives and other court users and stakeholders. This role is being piloted as part of MCV's response to the need for a more seamless and efficient way for court users who present with complex needs to access and navigate the court system.
About you
- Sound knowledge of the Victorian Justice system, SCP, solution focused courts and therapeutic jurisprudence
- Demonstrated skill and experience in triage, client engagement, risk assessment (derived from multiple sources), crisis management, safety planning, and case management working with clients who have complex issues
- Demonstrated experience using evidence-based approaches that are person centred, strengths based, trauma informed and culturally sensitive
- Demonstrated understanding of the interplay of family violence, mental health and Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) and other complexities in the Specialists Courts and Programs
- Demonstrated experience in providing culturally sensitive support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants
- Knowledge of court procedures, processes and referral pathways is desirable.
