Responsibilities
Lead design role on substation primary design scope for substation projects, including developing and reviewing detailed electrical designs such as primary electrical layouts, elevations, assembly drawings, detail drawings, and equipment schedules
Drafting in software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, etc.
MicroStation preferred
Collaborate with project stakeholders (clients, engineers, technicians) to gather requirements, assess scope, and address technical challenges
Perform project lead drafter roles ensuring processes and QA are correctly performed on projects
Coordinate small drafting project teams, provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers
Participate in design review meetings, identify risks or design issues, and propose effective solutions
Deliver projects on time to satisfy the client's requirements and the GHD CX commitment
Support the integration of GHD ESG strategy, sustainability and safety considerations into project design processes
What you will bring
Degree or Diploma in a relevant field or sufficient industry experience
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in electrical design, with a strong focus on substation and renewable projects, preferably in a consulting or power utility environment
Extensive experience with drafting software packages
Extensive knowledge of electrical design principles related to primary electrical equipment
Knowledge of substation civil/structural design is advantageous
Understanding of relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations, including Australian and International standards, industry guidelines, and current practice; experience with Western Power Substation Drafting standards
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex technical challenges and propose effective solutions
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with team members and clients
Proven ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
