Electrical Design Expert

We're seeking a highly skilled Electrical Design Expert to join our Energy Group. As Western Australia's largest Energy team, we are passionate about advancing the transition to more sustainable and resilient energy systems for our communities and future generations.

As an Electrical Design Expert, you will be responsible for leading design roles on substation primary design scope for substation projects. You will develop and review detailed electrical designs such as primary electrical layouts, elevations, assembly drawings, detail drawings, and equipment schedules.

  • You will draft in software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, etc., with MicroStation being preferred.
  • You will collaborate with project stakeholders (clients, engineers, technicians) to gather requirements, assess scope, and address technical challenges.
  • You will perform project lead drafter roles ensuring processes and QA are correctly performed on projects.
  • You will coordinate small drafting project teams, provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers.
  • You will participate in design review meetings, identify risks or design issues, and propose effective solutions.
  • You will deliver projects on time to satisfy client requirements and GHD CX commitment.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A degree or diploma in a relevant field or sufficient industry experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in electrical design, with a strong focus on substation and renewable projects, preferably in a consulting or power utility environment.
  • Extensive experience with drafting software packages.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical design principles related to primary electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of substation civil/structural design is advantageous.
  • Understanding of relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations, including Australian and International standards, industry guidelines, and current practice; experience with Western Power Substation Drafting standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex technical challenges and propose effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with team members and clients.
  • Proven ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
