SESLHD covers urban and suburban communities and manages eight public hospitals and one public nursing home:

SESLHD also operates 28 Child and Family Health Centres, 12 Community Health Centres and nine Oral Health Clinics; providing prevention, early intervention and community-based treatment, palliative care and rehabilitation services.
Drug and Alcohol, Mental Health, Breast screening, HIV/AIDS, Public Health, Women's Health, Youth Health, Sexual Health, Imaging and Pathology services are provided at a number of facilities across SESLHD.

**Where you'll be working**
The primary location of this position will be Intensive Care Unit at St George Hospital: Level 4, Acute Services Building, St George Hospital, Gray St, Kogarah NSW 2217.
**What you'll be doing**:
The primary purpose of the position is to provide a transition from the role of Provisional Fellow to that of a junior consultant in a complex clinical environment to assist the movement of the trainee into specialist practice. This position includes non-clinical time to allow development of administrative, education, quality assurance and research. Transition Year fellows will have the opportunity to participate in the consultant roster as well as be the first on-call overnight with consultant backup as the year progresses.
St George ICU is an award winning state of the art Level 3 Intensive Care unit in a** **600-bed tertiary referral and the major trauma centre for SESLHD. The unit treats over 3000 patients each year (including 500 post-op cardiothoracic patients) and has 52 physical beds of which 36 beds are currently funded. Most surgical and medical subspecialties are represented in the case-mix in keeping with the tertiary referral centre status of the hospital. In addition to the major trauma, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery and complex GI cancer surgery, the ICU provides an ECMO service. In addition to the accredited training program for the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM), the unit also contributes to anaesthetics, surgery, physician and emergency medicine training.
There is an ICU-based echocardiography service with an opportunity for hands-on training and supervision for those seeking formal qualification in echocardiography. There is also a fully equipped simulation centre in the Intensive Care complex where regular multidisciplinary simulation sessions are held.
The position is flexible and has graded responsibility to allow increasing clinical autonomy, development of skills in research and administration, and to build on skills and attributes acquired in the early years of training to assist the movement of the trainee into specialist practice.
Key responsibilities include:
- Clinical duties as assigned by the Consultants on duty for ICU or Director of ICU.
- Supervision of activities and tasks allocated to ICU Advanced Trainees and Residents, including patient management and documentation..
- Discussion of any concerns regarding patient management with the Duty Consultant
- Liaison with referring Consultants or their Advanced Trainees/ Fellows regarding patient management.
- Supervision of all ward rounds.
- Specialised procedures as directed and supervised by the Consultant on duty.
- Attend cardiac arrest calls, trauma calls and medical emergency calls when required.
- Participate in the onsite duties at night when rostered.
- Contribution to the weekly teaching program, including tutorials, journal club and lectures by guest speakers.
