Strongly inclusive, the College prides itself on its diversity as it welcomes students from all backgrounds and cultures.For further information about Edmund Rice College, please visit our website - RoleEdmund Rice College is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and highly motivated Science Laboratory Assistant to support the Science Department, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Science laboratories within the College.Reporting to the Head of Department: Science, the key responsibilities of the Science Laboratory Assistant includes but are not limited to the following:Setting up / packing up class experiments for studentsPerforming risk assessment in relation to experiments at the CollegeAssisting students and staff with enquires and support as requiredMaintaining stock control and ordering of materials and equipment on behalf of the Science DepartmentAssisting teachers throughout lessons, including setting up for practical lessons in the laboratory and providing support during learning activitiesEnsuring MSDS are current and up to dateDistributing resources to students and staff as appropriateCooperating with all work, health and safety considerations and procedures of the College, taking reasonable care that actions or omissions do no impact on the health and safety of others in the CollegeEnsuring the appropriate signage and documents are displayed in the Science Laboratories, including safety related information and compliance recordsPerforming other administrative duties as requiredActively participate in the life of the College by attending events including liturgies, staff development days and other functionsAssisting the Science facility with any other reasonable requestsAbout YouTo be considered for this position, you must meet the following essential criteria:Relevant qualification/s in a science / laboratory fieldPrevious experience working in a science / laboratory setting (within a school desirable)Knowledge and understanding of laboratory processes and chemicalsPossess an understanding and working knowledge of safety in a laboratory settingExcellent interpersonal, communication and organisation skillsWork collaboratively in a team environment, performing the role in a professional, pleasant and cooperative mannerPossess a valid Working with Children Check.A commitment to the child safeguarding principles.An understanding and commitment to the Mission and Ethos of the College in the Edmund Rice tradition.The ProcessApplications (including CV and covering letter) to be submitted through by 9 September 2025.The appointment of a successful candidate is conditional and based on the successful completion of all pre-employment screening, including child-related employment and reference checks.
