Role Overview
The Commercial Analyst is responsible to provide high qulity and insightful analysis and reporting. administration and coordination of billing and assisting their team in preparing financial and utilisation reporting. The Commercial Finance Analyst is involved with daily business activities within the functional area, to improve the overall business functions.
Core Responsibilities
1. Cost Management and Optimization
One of the primary tasks of an Azure FinOps Analyst is to manage and optimize cloud costs. This involves:
- Monitoring and analyzing cloud expenditures: Tracking cloud spending patterns to identify trends and areas for cost savings.
- Implementing cost-saving strategies: Recommending and deploying cost optimization measures such as rightsizing resources, utilizing reserved instances, and identifying underutilized assets.
- Cost forecasting and budgeting: Developing accurate cost forecasts and budgets based on historical data and future project requirements.
2. Financial Reporting and Transparency
Ensuring financial transparency and providing comprehensive reports are essential functions of an Azure FinOps Analyst:
- Generating detailed financial reports: Creating regular reports on cloud expenditures, savings, and budget adherence for stakeholders.
- Providing cost transparency: Implementing tools and processes that offer clear visibility into cloud costs for different teams and departments.
- Communicating financial insights: Presenting financial data and insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders to drive informed decision-making.
3. Governance and Compliance
An Azure FinOps Analyst ensures that cloud financial operations comply with organizational policies and regulations:
- Implementing governance policies: Establishing and enforcing policies for cloud usage, spending limits, and resource allocation.
- Ensuring compliance: Monitoring cloud operations to ensure adherence to regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Conducting audits: Performing regular audits of cloud expenditures and processes to identify and rectify any discrepancies or non-compliance issues.
4. Stakeholder Collaboration
Effective collaboration with various stakeholders is crucial for an Azure FinOps Analyst:
- Working with finance teams: Coordinating with finance departments to align cloud spending with overall financial strategies and goals.
- Collaborating with IT and cloud teams: Partnering with technical teams to understand their requirements and provide financial insights that support efficient cloud usage.
- Engaging with vendors: Managing relationships with cloud service providers to negotiate better pricing, discounts, and contracts.
5. Automation and Tooling
Leveraging automation and advanced tools is a key aspect of the FinOps role:
- Implementing FinOps tools: Using specialized FinOps platforms to track, analyze, and optimize cloud costs.
- Automating cost management: Developing and deploying automated scripts and workflows to streamline cost management processes.
- Continuous improvement: Continuously evaluating and adopting new tools and technologies to enhance financial operations and cost efficiency.
**Requirements**:
Knowledge
- Sound knowledge of business processes.
- Understanding of business operations.
- Strong understanding of Risk management principles.
- Strong business acumen.
Experience
- 3+ years of related commercial and/or business operations experience.
- Demonstrated experience in a data analytics role.
- Any FinOps certification
**Skills**:
- Forecasting
- Cost Management
- Cloud knowledge (Primary: Azure Secondary: AWS, Google)
- Licensing knowledge will be beneficial
