We work closely with Australian and international businesses, organizations, and governments.
About the role
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lawyer/Associate to join Maddocks' construction litigation team, working with Paul Woods and Anna Scannell.
The Construction team has five Partners and handles both front and back-end matters.
The team has a strong pipeline of varied and interesting work across a range of clients, including large construction companies, developers, government departments, and entities.
This role involves working on a variety of matters for both public and private clients, including:
Disputes related to time (extensions of time and delay costs), variations, and defects (including latent defects) on construction and infrastructure projects.
Litigated construction disputes in Victorian Courts.
Arbitrations under domestic commercial arbitration legislation in Australia.
Expert determination and mediation.
Advising on construction insurance policies (experience in this area is a bonus but not essential).
Industries include commercial, energy, gas, electricity, road, rail, mining, and residential projects.
We are committed to maintaining our reputation as a high-performing construction team, delivering outstanding technical knowledge, excellent client service, and a solid understanding of our clients' legal expectations.
We offer high-quality work within a diverse practice for those passionate about becoming construction law experts.
As a Lawyer in the team, you will have the opportunity to work both autonomously and collaboratively with Partners and other team members on mid to large-scale matters.
About you
You will likely have approximately 3+ years of experience in a top/mid-tier firm working on construction disputes.
Candidates with transactional experience and an interest in moving into litigation are encouraged to apply.
You should also have:
Excellent communication skills with a proactive approach.
Strong academic results.
The ability to work independently and within larger teams.
A commitment to technical excellence and continuous learning.
Joining this team offers strong mentoring, support, and career progression opportunities in a collaborative environment.
