About the Role
The Friends' School is seeking an inspiring and visionary music educator to lead our comprehensive music program as Head of Music, Co-Curricular and Tuition.
This permanent, full-time position will commence in January 2026 and includes a Level 8 Responsibility Allowance.
The role spans Early Learning to Year 12 and encompasses leadership in curriculum and ensembles, as well as a thriving private tuition program.
The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping the future of music at Friends', embedding a culture of excellence, innovation, and inclusivity.
Working collaboratively across the School, you will lead a dynamic team of staff and tutors, coordinate co-curricular and ensemble activities, and ensure a cohesive and engaging music education experience for all students.
Key Focus Areas
Provide strategic leadership in music education aligned with the School's values and strategic plan
Oversee the coordination and delivery of co-curricular music, ensembles, and tuition across all year levels
Inspire staff and students through innovative curriculum design and high-quality performance opportunities
Manage and mentor music staff, ensemble leaders, and tutors to support growth and collaboration
Coordinate concerts, excursions, and performances, including after-hours events
Champion student participation in music through engaging and inclusive programs across contemporary and traditional styles
Oversee scheduling, resources, facilities, and instrument maintenance across music spaces
Foster strong connections with parents, external providers, and music education networks

Essential Qualifications
Appropriate tertiary qualifications in music and education
Registration with the Teachers Registration Board of Tasmania (or eligibility to obtain)
Current Working with Vulnerable People Registration (employment category)
Extensive teaching experience, including leading music programs across multiple year levels
Proven ability to lead teams, mentor staff, and drive innovation in music education
Strong skills in managing ensembles, events, and tuition programs
Familiarity with music technology and contemporary pedagogy
Commitment to child safeguarding and alignment with the Purpose and Concerns of The Friends' School
