The Team Leader, Screening and Cancer Prevention, provides leadership and strategic direction for screening and cancer prevention policy and programs in Victoria. The Team Leader will manage a small team and oversee implementation of national population-based screening programs (including the Newborn Bloodspot Screening Program); cancer prevention initiatives (including the Shade Grants and SunSmart Programs); and contribute to state and national policy development. The position also leads planning and delivery of strategic initiatives in cancerprevention and early detection under the Victorian Cancer Plan 2020-24, and manages operations support for the team, including budget and corporate reporting. The role involves forming strong stakeholder relationships, both internal and external to the department, and contract management with funded agencies.

**Accountabilities**:

- Lead a team in providing or contributing to authoritative and expert advice and recommendations consistent with organisational goals and values.
- Manage the allocation of resources within and the outputs required of the work area to achieve service delivery goals and expectations.
- Effectively supervise and provide leadership to a team of employees by:

- (a) leading and supporting individuals to achieve their potential and contribution to organisational goals and outcomes
- (b) modelling behaviours integral to good people management and departmental values
- (c) where relevant, managing and monitoring specific improvement objectives in annual improvement plans relating to the area of responsibility
- (d) pro-actively building and maintaining positive relationships with peers and stakeholders across the organisation.
- Resolve complex operational problems and issues being experienced by team members.
- Develop policy initiatives that meet government and departmental objectives within resourcing, timeline and budget parameters.
- Monitor and report on high priority issues, risks and trends and prepare and present reports, ministerial briefs, Cabinet and agency submissions.
- Maintain an understanding of Commonwealth and State legislative and policy reform directions to influence policy development.
- Represent the department on key stakeholder committees and groups concerned with achieving government and departmental objectives and contribute to relevant committee and governance processes.
- Provide timely, high quality and accurate advice to departmental executives and Ministerial officers including identifying emerging issues and anticipating and responding to areas of risk for the government, department and the community.
- Contract manage funded agencies to ensure delivery of contracted functions and projects in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.
