**THE ROLE**
The Aboriginal Statewide Principal Practitioner - Child Protection supports building the capability, skill and capacity of Child Protection through practice leadership. Reporting to the Chief Practitioner, the Aboriginal Statewide Principal Practitioner - Child Protection works within a team of specialist practitioners to deliver system wide, effective, culturally informed practice consistency that supports better outcomes for children, young people and their families. Partnering with key internal and external stakeholders, and communities, the role will lead the development of strategic practice initiatives aimed at enhancing service responses for children and families involved with Child Protection.
The role assists, supports and develops the skills of Child Protection staff in their work with children, young people and families through involvement in practice, professional development, consultation, case reviews and the provision of specialist advice and input to practitioners, managers, policy developers and other stakeholders (both government and non-government).
The role leads and facilitates a culture of reflective practice and continuous improvement, supporting and enabling the many complex and systemic issues related to child abuse and neglect to be considered from a variety of perspectives. The role engages and collaborates with all key stakeholders to ensure partnerships in service delivery for children and their families. The role is a conduit for cascading practice leadership in and out of operations. In addition, the role has responsibility for designated strategic initiatives and portfolios to further the departmental priorities and directions.
The role requires highly developed expertise in the field of children and families, and child protection practice; and the ability to mobilise flexible, timely and innovative responses in collaboration with front line practitioners, managers, specialist practitioners and executives within the department.
**ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE**
- Provide practice leadership and make authoritative decisions based on sound practice expertise and contemporary research that deliver positive outcomes for children and families, particularly regarding the highest risk, complex and sensitive cases.
- Establish professional practice and service delivery standards that embed collaborative, child-focused and family-centred approaches to decision making and reflective practice in child protection work across the state.
- Provide expert intervention that informs the management and intervention of complex behaviours and cases and the development of targeted innovative strategies.
