Overview
The Brayton lab is seeking a laboratory assistant to aid in the execution of laboratory research and management of lab resources.
The lab works on genomics, cell biology, diagnostics and vaccine development for Anaplasma spp.
Work will include but is not limited to: DNA isolation, cloning and sequencing (including traditional Sanger sequencing and high throughput genomic sequencing), quantitative PCR, protein isolation and detection, RNAseq, and assistance with animal work (Gene gun immunization).
Additionally routine laboratory maintenance and ordering duties will be required.

Responsibilities
Assist in laboratory research and lab resource management.
Perform DNA isolation, cloning and sequencing (including Sanger and high-throughput sequencing).
Conduct quantitative PCR, protein isolation and detection, RNAseq, and assist with animal work (Gene gun immunization).
Carry out routine laboratory maintenance and ordering of supplies.
Required Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, or a closely related field, and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
A Master's degree may substitute for up to one year of work experience.
The Bachelor's degree must be in biology, microbiology, or a closely related field.
Two years of the required work experience must have been performed in a laboratory.
Ability to follow pre-established scientific procedures and/or protocols.
Willingness to work with animals.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to safely work with potentially infectious material and handle hazardous chemicals safely.
Knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, materials, and procedures related to micro- and cell biology.
Experience with eukaryotic cell culture.
Knowledge of Bioinformatics and tools such as SNAPgene and CLC Genomics Workbench.
Experience performing standardized laboratory tests, recording results, maintaining a clean and safe lab, and keeping inventories.
Experience working with animals, especially cattle.
