**Overview: Academic Support Tutors**

Newington College seeks enthusiastic and capable casual academic tutor to join our Academic Support Program for Year 7 to 12 at Newington Stanmore Secondary Campus.

Our team of tutors provides support and assistance to secondary students in after-school study and homework groups. Those completing a Master of Teaching or a Bachelor of Education degree, experience in teaching or students enrolled in other undergraduate courses with an intention to pursue a career in teaching will be highly regarded.

Academic support programs run each day. Different programs support junior students, while others specialise in working with Year 12 students. Sessions begin at varying times each afternoon. Tutors may be involved in one or more programs or sessions each week, depending upon their availability.

Tutors in the program provide support and guidance to students in completing homework, preparing for assessment, or in their independent study. Tutors do not facilitate or deliver structured sessions, but flexibly respond to student inquiries and work individually with students as needed. Our academic support services work to build confidence and independence in learning, not dependence on the knowledge or expertise of a tutor.

Additional opportunities for employment at the College may also be available for tutors, including academic support in school holidays, examination and assessment invigilation teams, or as a part of other programs. Additionally, the College provides professional development for the tutoring team in a range of areas including study skills for students, questioning techniques, behaviour management and child protection. Where possible the College is happy to support tutors with practicum placements and with their search for full-time employment in education at the conclusion of their studies.

The College is seeking tutors across all secondary disciplines and teaching areas, with particular interest in those completing Mathematics in their studies. Those who have familiarity with the IB Diploma will be highly regarded. Tutors are remunerated according to the College's Multi Enterprise Agreement, and all must hold current a Working with Children (WWC) check and complete an induction prior to commencing at the College.
