**Who are we looking for?**

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a Head of School, Biology and Environmental Science to join School of Biology and Environmental Science, Faculty of Science, Academic Division.

The Head of School is a key member of the Science Faculty Executive which develops and implements the Faculty's mission and strategy in collaboration with the Faculty Executive team. The Head of School provides leadership and support to academic staff within the School to create a major expansion of research activity, deliver outstanding IT education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, establish close collaborations with industry and other tertiary institutions, and to actively seek opportunities for generating revenue to support research and education. The Head of School is responsible for academic leadership of the School and for supporting and encouraging School staff to achieve agreed goals. The Head of School will encourage and promote a sense of unity, cooperation and common purpose amongst School staff, and to actively recruit new staff to the School. The Head of School is expected to lead the external orientation of the School including the promotion of collaboration across the Faculty, with other Faculties and Divisions at QUT, and externally. The Head of School will identify with the mission and goals of the University and will possess a commitment to pursue these goals within the framework of the values of the University. This position reports to the Executive Dean, Faculty of Science for supervision, workload management and for Performance Planning and Review (PPR).

fields of research in both Environmental and Biological Sciences either at or well above world standard (ERA 2018). We are a
partner of choice for research and innovation at federal, state and regional government levels, and with industry, communities and end-users.
Our researchers currently play a leadership role in the Australian Research Council's (ARC) Industrial Transformation
Research Centre for Fruit Fly Biosecurity Innovation and two ARC Centre's of Excellence - Synthetic Biology and Plant
Success in Nature and Agriculture. School members have leadership roles and are affiliated with a number of University
Research Centres including the Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy, Centre for the Environment and Centre for a
Waste-Free World.

**What you need to succeed**

You will demonstrate:
1. A doctoral qualification or equivalent in biology or environmental science with proven leadership and achievement at a senior level.
2. Demonstrated success in academic leadership including the significant enhancement of education and expansion in research.
3. Proven experience and success in budget and resource management and strategic planning.
5. Ability to develop effective teams, exercise conflict management skills and manage complex interdisciplinary relationships in an academic setting.
6. Sophisticated communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to generate trust, lead and facilitate change.
