About the Role
The Therapeutic Franchise Head (TFH) will serve as an operational expert in the relevant therapeutic area and is responsible for the development of strategies to support new business proposals for Emerald Clinical and the holistic sale to delivery of contracted work in clinical trials within their therapeutic area of expertise.
Key accountabilities
Operational strategy
Create and optimize innovative delivery strategies and solutions for Early and Late Phase, multi-service, multi-region studies or programs, leveraging EC's expertise and capabilities in the therapeutic area.
Differentiate Emerald Clinical from competitors in the assigned area in collaboration with relevant experts.
Support long-term business growth through collaboration with EC Functional Area Heads and other stakeholders, including external Centres of Excellence and partners.
Develop effective delivery strategies for all projects in the assigned area, addressing specific client needs and challenges.
Coordinate with Operations Area Lead team members to align with the global operational strategy in the therapeutic area.
Develop training materials and a library of resources to support project leads regionally and globally.
New business
In partnership with Business Development, Medical Services, Proposals, Operations, and others, help win new business in the relevant therapeutic area.
Collaborate with Business Development to evaluate opportunities from receipt through pricing and proposal development and award decisions, including standalone programs, RFIs, capabilities, early engagement, and partnerships.
Support customer-facing meetings by preparing content, training project teams, and conveying project strategy and win themes.
Develop and review project budgets aligned with strategy and pricing targets; participate in bid defenses and customer meetings as required.
Coordinate follow-up actions identified at bid defenses and meetings.
Act as Emerald Clinical project champion for awarded projects, guiding delivery teams to implement the strategy sold and advising on adjustments as progress indicates.
Mentor Project Leads through comprehensive handover, ensuring they can present the project strategy to clients and stakeholders.
Define project team profiles and organizational structure to meet customer needs and secure the project award.
Guide project leads throughout the lifecycle, adjusting delivery strategy as needed and serving as an escalation and governance contact for awarded projects.
About You
Tertiary qualifications in a related science or health care discipline.
Minimum of 10 years global clinical research experience with hands-on operational project delivery and/or drug development experience.
Minimum of 5 years global business development experience, with direct involvement in processes such as RFPs, client leadership, and relationships.
Expert experience in one or more operational areas within the assigned therapeutic area.
Up-to-date knowledge of Emerald Clinical's services, product offerings, trends in clinical trial methodology, and business intelligence for the role of Operational Strategy lead.
Ability to understand customer needs, negotiate solutions, and communicate impacts on the offering.
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills in English (written and spoken).
Strong leadership, ability to work with minimal supervision, and experience leading a virtual team in a matrix organization.
Strong business acumen with financial awareness and negotiation skills; comfortable in both sales and operational contexts.
