Job Description Summary

The Workshop Supervisor provides Supervision and Project support to the Business Unit. The main areas of involvement will include Direct Supervision of mechanical trades in a workshop environment, actively managing and ensuring compliance with all of service streams Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements, policies, and management systems.

The Workshop Supervisor has a leading role in actively promoting safe and environmentally responsible work practices along with adherence to Quality Control and works schedules to employees and subcontractors.

The role also includes delivering contractual requirements to client's satisfaction whilst maximising profit margin and financial return for the company whilst complying with all statutory regulations.

Key responsibilities:

- Safety, Quality, Client satisfaction.
- Direct Supervision of mechanical trades at the Port Melbourne Workshop.
- Overseeing teaching of new and existing personnel to upgrade workforce skills in Quality and Safety awareness.
- Actively managing and comply with all Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements as outlined in the policies and management systems.
- Effectively manage employee relations.
- Maintain effective Client relations.
- Assist to maximize the return on a project by meeting or exceeding bottom line performance expectations through the delivery of an avoidable risk culture, high focus on safety, quality and operational performance.
- Responsible for operational performance of the Port Melbourne Workshop as measured by physical key performance indicators.
- Ensuring all activities undertaken comply with the applicable legal requirements, including but not limited to duty of care and prevention of pollution.
- Complying with all statutory regulations.
- Assistance with project tendering.
- Manage and control welding qualifications and records along with staff competencies.
- Actively promote safe and environmentally responsible work practices to other employees and subcontractors and report all non-conformances and incidents.
- Ensure all Service Stream safety processes and procedures are adhered to.
- Stock control
- Truck delivery management.

Experience required:

- At least 5 years' experience working engineering trade or metal trade background in a Workshop environment supervising multi discipline workgroups.
- Demonstrated experience in at least five of the key project knowledge areas of Safety, Quality, Cost, Risk management, Procurement, Scope, Communications and Human resources.
- Fabrication and welding experience
- Demonstrated experience in managing and maintaining client relationships.
- Ability to identify and mitigate project/task risks.
- Demonstrated ability to lead personnel to achieve company objectives.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and report writing skills.
- General understanding of the HS&E Policies.
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
