- The Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL) is a leading Australian infectious diseases reference laboratory which is part of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (the Doherty); a joint venture between Royal Melbourne and the University of Melbourne. VIDRL provides the Victorian Department of Health with virology public health reference laboratory services, and has national reference laboratory designations for the Commonwealth Department of Health as well as international health programs through WHO, including several WHO Regional Reference Laboratory designations, and several WHO Collaborating Centres.
- We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join the VIDRL team. This is a full time, fixed term position, based at The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (the Doherty). This 6 month position is a registrar training position in Clinical Microbiology accredited by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA), and suitable for senior microbiology or infectious diseases trainees.
**Your Opportunity**:
- Under the supervsion of relevent Supervising Pathologist you will help supprt VIDRL in providing high quality clinical supervision of diagnostic and reference laboratories
- To gain clinical and technical expertise in diagnostic virology, and other specialist VIDRL services such as Mycobacteria; to learn the role of the reference and public health laboratory
- increase expertise in laboratory management, including quality and compliance
- To complete compulsory requirements for training - including opppotunties for project work
**About You**:
- ** Formal Qualifications**:
- Registered with the Medical Board of Australia
- Registered Trainee of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) in Microbiology or Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in Infectious Diseases
- **Essential Qualities**:
- Excellent knowledge-base and sound clinical judgement in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases
- Excellent communication skills - both written and oral
- **Desirable Qualities**:
- Having passed the RCPA Part 1examination in Microbiology, or an equivalent qualification accepted by the RCPA
- A qualification in a relevant discipline, such as public health, tropical medicine, microbiology
- Good at working in a collaborative environment
