Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Atlassian Full time

**Working at Atlassian**

**Atlassian can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Assuming you have eligible working rights and a sufficient time zone overlap with your team, you can choose to work remotely or return to an office as they reopen (unless it's necessary for your role to be performed in the office). Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.**

We are looking for a R&D Manager to assist our Tax Team in navigating the R&D Incentive Scheme and related issues facing a rapidly expanding software development group and complex global tax environment.
- You will report directly to the Head of International Tax based in Sydney and your primary role is to own and improve our R&D process. Atlassian invests in its people and our people love to innovate. In an R&D world, this means we want to find someone who can speak both languages. We are looking for someone who understands the tech speak of our developers and can translate this into a first class R&D claim so that we can continue to invest in our people and their ideas.

**In this role you'll get to**:

- Develop and execute the R&D tax strategy, including the appropriate controls and processes around R&D compliance
- Provide expertise to stakeholders around R&D incentives
- Deliver all of our R&D compliance (lets start with Australia and build out to other countries)
- Make R&D as painless as possible for the business and to embed processes that ensure our Australian tax claims are defendable without slowing the developers down in delivering their goals.
- Make our R&D processes work globally and defend eligible R&D claims wherever R&D is occurring within the global group.
- Use technology to deliver R&D results and supporting documentation that can scale and grow

**On your first day, we'll expect you to have**:

- Experience in the field of R&D (either in house or as an advisor)
- Strong tax compliance and legal research skills
- Strong organisational skills, highly adaptable coupled with the ability to take initiative
- Effective problem solving, methodical, detail-oriented, and analytical, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and collaborate with different individuals and functions across the organisation
- Be comfortable with working in a fast paced environment
- Be comfortable with being uncomfortable
- Self motivated with a desire to learn
- Experience working in the tech sector or an equally fast growing, ever-changing environment

**You're a great fit for this role if you're**:

- Highly motivated, love to learn, detail orientated, and have excellent communication and team-building skills
- Passionate for making complex issues simple and a deep understanding of the Australian R&D tax incentive program (experience with incentive programs internationally would be a bonus).
- A whizz at using our systems & technology to automate and access the best data available.
- Flexible and passionate to tackle new challenges, we'll be glad to have you onboard

**More about the team**
- The Tax team sets and oversees the worldwide tax strategy and makes sure Atlassian is tax compliant around the globe. You will be joining a dynamic and collaborative, globally distributed team with a stellar mix of industry, operational, and Big Four experience. We are always growing, learning, and adapting. Our team is crazy smart and very direct. We ask hard questions and challenge each other to constantly improve our work. We are driven but team-oriented.

**Our perks & benefits**

To support you at work and play, our perks and benefits include ample time off, an annual education budget, paid volunteer days, and so much more.

**About Atlassian**

The world's best teams work better together with Atlassian. From medicine and space travel, to disaster response and pizza deliveries, Atlassian software products help teams all over the planet. At Atlassian, we're motivated by a common goal: to unleash the potential of every team.
