About us
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.
The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the role
This is an Aboriginal Designated position in accordance with Court Services Victoria Designated Positions policy. This position is classified under 'special measures', section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. To ensure that the intention of the recruitment process is maintained, a 'Confirmation of Aboriginality' document is required from applicants.
Reporting to the Director, Koori Strategy & Engagement (KS&E), the Coordinator, Koori Projects position leads and/or contributes to a variety of Koori Justice-related projects and initiatives. This includes coordinating regular reporting to Court Services Victoria, helping with secretariat support to the newly established MCV Self-determination Project Control Group and the associated Self-determination Working Groups, and coordination of annual Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week events.
The role also supports the day-to-day operations of KS&E, including developing and maintaining business unit documents, administering project documents and administration systems, building effective relationships and assisting with community and internal engagement, and conducting independent research activities.
About you
You have a strong interest and commitment to improving Koori and First Nations peoples' experience of the justice system in Victoria. You have a positive approach to your work, and by using your problem-solving skills you are focused on solutions.
With experience working on different projects, you are great at building good working relationships, and enjoy working with Community and other internal and external groups. You're great at working independently, and you have a strong work-ethic and take pride in your work. You enjoy work that has lots of variety, and you can work to deadlines. You also have well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
