Economic success and corporate responsibility are inextricably linked as part of this process.Symrise - always inspiring more...Safety Officer, Australia (3-Year Fixed Term)The Safety Officer will oversee health and safety practices of the greenfield project, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and Symrise safety standards and fostering a safe working environment. This role involves risk assessment, policy development and enforcement, training and accident prevention. The Position: 1. Risk Assessment and InspectionsConstruction and Post-Construction PhaseConduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards.Perform thorough risk assessments and implement corrective measures.Ensure tools, equipment, and materials meet safety standards.2. Policy Development and ComplianceConstruction PhaseDevelop, implement, and enforce safety policies in line with local regulations and Symrise safety standards, in consultation with Symrise Regional and/or Global Safety.Manage, coordinate, and oversee workgroups in accordance with the HSE Management Plan, PC's SMP and other relevant HSE management systems.Ensure steps are taken by Principal Contractor and subcontractors to comply with workplace health and safety laws and Symrise safety standards as spelt out in the contract.Use contractual provisions to enforce compliance, including issuing non-conformance notices or stopping work if necessary.Evaluating and approving Principal Contractor's safety plans to ensure alignment with WHS laws and addressing specific site risks.Ensure all contractors have valid qualifications to perform any special and/or high risk tasks.Ensure as far as reasonably practicable that all structures, equipment, and processes are installed in accordance with industry and legislative requirements.Work closely with cross functional teams to ensure compliance to the Project HSE Plan.
Post-Construction PhaseDevelop, implement, and enforce safety policies in line with local regulations and Symrise safety standards, in consultation with Symrise Regional and/or Global Safety.Monitoring all site activities and ensuring that all contractors and their subcontractors follow safe work method statements.Ensure steps are taken by all contractors and subcontractors to comply with workplace health and safety laws and Symrise safety standards (e.g. Permit to Work, risk assessment, training, communication etc.) while performing work onsite.Evaluating and approving contractors and subcontractors' safety plans to ensure alignment with WHS laws and addressing specific site risks.Ensure all contractors have valid qualifications to perform any special and/or high-risk tasks.3. Incident ManagementConstruction PhaseReview investigation outcome from Principal Contractor for accidents, incidents or near-misses in the construction site to validate root causes.Ensure Principal Contractor implements the corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.Provide additional advice or recommendations as necessary.Compile accurate accidents and incidents statistics and reports in line with internal monitoring and reporting requirements.Post-Construction PhaseEstablish a system for reporting and investigating incidents, near misses, and hazards in compliance with Symrise requirements.Lead the investigation for all accidents, incidents and near misses.Ensure the implementation of corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.Compile accurate accidents and incidents statistics and reports in line with internal monitoring and reporting requirements.4. Training and Awareness Construction PhaseConstruction Phase Ensure all Principal Contractor's organise training to ensure workers receive safety training tailored to their roles and risks. Update training regularly to reflect new regulations or workplace changes.Organize health and safety training for all Symrise workers at all levels to ensure they comply with all safety requirements when entering the worksite.Post-Construction Phase Ensure all employees and contractors receive safety training tailored to their roles and risks. Update training regularly to reflect new regulations or workplace changes.Organize health and safety training for all Symrise workers at all levels to ensure they comply with all safety requirements when working in the new site.Promote a culture of safety through workshops and communication.5. Documentation and ReportingConstruction and Post-Construction PhaseMaintain accurate accurate records of inspections, meetings, risk assessments, accidents and incidents, and corrective actions to demonstrate compliance.Collect monthly safety data from Principal Contractor as per contractual agreement.Submit required safety reports or documentation to regulatory authorities. 6. Emergency PreparednessConstruction PhaseEnsure Principal Contractor develops and test site emergency response plans for the construction site.Coordinate drills for fire, evacuation, or other emergencies with SymrisePost-Construction PhaseDevelop and test site emergency response plans.Coordinate drills for fire, evacuation, or other emergencies.7) CollaborationConstruction PhasePlan and coordinate activities in such a way as to eliminate foreseeable risks to Health and Safety.Ensure as far as reasonably practicable all contractors engaged are aware of the HSE Management Plan.Consulting with the Principal Contractor and other stakeholders to ensure safety measures are implemented effectively and risks are minimized.Review Principal Contractor's safety plans for approval.Foster an environment where workers feel encouraged to report hazards and follow safety protocols without fear of retaliationWork closely with the HSE Consultant to ensure that the HSE Management Plan is effective and well implemented by the Principal Contractor.Post-Construction Phase Work closely with project managers, contractors and subcontractors, internal stakeholders and government agencies om safety matters.Advising and consulting with the internal stakeholders to ensure safety measures are implemented effectively and risks are minimized.Review all contractors' safety plans for approval before work can proceed.The Ideal Candidate: Certification in Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) or equivalentAt least 1-2 years experience in construction safety managementKnowledge of local safety regulationsKnowledge of high risk construction works operationsStrong communication and problem solving skillsRequire to be physically present on the construction job siteMandatory to wear personal protective equipment for extended periods of timeWilling to work during wet conditions
