**About the Opportunity**:
We now have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our team as a full-time or part-time **Laboratory Assistant** in the Sterilising Department of our Bowen Hills laboratory. Current operational hours are 06:30 - 1500, Monday to Friday. The initial requirement is a 5 day fortnight with shifts to be negotiated and on rare occasions, some Saturday shifts may be required.

The Sterilising Department is a central cleaning and sterilisation facility for glassware and labware used in the various scientific departments at the Bowen Hills Laboratory. The department is also responsible for the assembly of a range of specimen collection kits, dispensing reagents from large to smaller "in use" volumes and a range of other miscellaneous tasks.

Duties include:

- Collection of dirty laboratory glass and plastic ware.
- Performance of relevant tasks relating to the cleaning, disinfecting and rinsing laboratory glassware and medical instruments used in the Practice.
- Wrapping, packaging and sterilisation of cleaned items.
- Delivery of cleaned laboratory ware.
- Assembly of various specimen collection kits, including assistance to Production in the Warehouse/Supply, dept. as required.
- Assistance to the Microbiology department as a walking courier to take specimens to other departments.
- Assistance to other Bowen Hills departments with dispensing reagents from large to smaller volumes.

To thrive in this role, you will have the following:

- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a small team.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload and work methodically and efficiently whilst adhering to occupational health and safety policies.

Although not essential, prior laboratory experience will be highly advantageous. Applicants holding a degree or higher tertiary qualifications will not be considered.

Whilst the primary role of the successful applicant will be in the Sterilising department, there may be a requirement at times, depending on workload to assist in other departments. Such duties may include assisting with scanning and photocopying or assisting with various Laboratory assistant duties.
