Description
- **Objectives and scope of the position**
The Payroll Specialist is key to ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of monthly and fortnightly payrolls for 400 permanent and casual employees. Providing exceptional customer service within a growing Finance team, the role will hold overall responsibility for maintaining accurate employee data and supervising and mentoring a Payroll Officer.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Manage end to end fortnightly and monthly payroll processes for 400 employees across multiple entities in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia.
- Maintain employee payroll records including superannuation, taxation, leave balances and other related records in the HRIS
- Process leave, deductions and other adjustments
- Reconcile leave between the timesheet system and HRIS including maintenance of the purchased leave register
- Process payroll administration new starters and termination payments
- Respond to employee payroll related queries
- Perform monthly and yearly payroll reconciliations and manage ledger queries
- Provide timely and accurate information to external sources including superannuation funds, ATO and other government agencies
- Liaison with People and Culture on payroll adjustments, policies, new hires, terminations and other related issues
- Process STP, payroll tax reconciliations and superannuation payments
- Produce yearly distribution review letters and ad hoc calculations in conjunction with the CFO
- Produce annual remuneration letters in conjunction with People and Culture
- Ad hoc financial reporting
- Other projects and tasks as required to support the Finance team
**Qualifications and experience/skills required**
- 5+ years' experience managing a full function payroll within a professional services environment
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated success building highly effective team and client relationships (internal and external)
- Advanced MS Office, reconciliation and online banking skills
- Expert understanding of current tax, superannuation and other payroll related legislation for all Australian States and Territories (New Zealand a bonus)
- Discreet and able to maintain confidentiality, calm and efficient under pressure
- Proactive, flexible and adept at managing competing tasks and timeframes
