**Position Purpose**

Located in Access, Wellbeing and Equity, the Accessibility Advisor (Professional Practice)

provides a range of activities, both strategic and in person, which facilitate access, transition

and success for students with disability and health conditions across all of Murdoch

University's campuses.

The primary functions of the role are to work with academic and work integrated learning

learning opportunities by incorporating Universal Design at Work principles to promote a

culture of accessibility for all.

The Accessibility Advisor (Professional Practice) will also provide education and training to

universal design tools and strategies in education and real world learning environments.

For those students whose needs are not met through the UDL initiatives in place, this position

will work with individuals to identify and recommend appropriate reasonable adjustments.

**About the Work Area**

Access, Wellbeing & Equity (AWE) provides professional and innovative wellbeing and health

services, supports students with health conditions and disabilities, and drives equity programs

in order to optimise the student journey and promote the wellbeing of the wider Murdoch

University community. AWE aims to enhance student experience through a range of wellbeing

and equity focused activities, including taking leadership in the implementation of the

University Student Wellbeing Strategy. AWE is located at Murdoch's South Street Campus but

provides services across all campuses. AWE is also responsible for the coordination of

Murdoch's SAGE Athena SWAN accreditation and action plan

**Key Responsibilities/Duties**

Murdoch University Position Description - Accessibility Advisor

1. Provision and review of individualised support through recommendation of appropriate

and evidence based, reasonable adjustments for students with disability or health

conditions whose needs are not met through the broader Universal Design for Learning

initiatives in place across the university.

2. Proactively collaborate with the Colleges as an accessibility specialist, in the

development and review of inherent requirements for courses, with a particular focus

on work placements by incorporating Universal Design at Work principles.

3. Lead engagement with university staff across disciplines, industry engagement and

work integrated learning teams to develop and contribute to initiatives that aim to

increase employability of students with disability and health conditions with a primary

focus on increased accessible participation in internships and work placements

4. Provide advice and support to students, future students and staff in relation to

procedural and professional best practice in disability and accessibility related matters,

knowledge to review University standards, policies, procedures, guidelines and

resources that support sustainable inclusive educational practices for students with

disability.
